Cyber Monday In South Africa This Year
Also known as Blue Monday, Cyber Monday is one Monday people don’t mind waking up to! The term was coined by Ellen Davis & Scott Silverman of the National Retail Federation in a 2005 press release and the event takes place the Monday after Black Friday every year.
Cyber Monday has become the online equivalent and competitor to Black Friday offering a way for smaller online stores to compete with larger chains. We are expecting a huge Cyber Monday in South Africa with shopping malls being particularly quiet this Black Friday as reported across South Africa, assumed to be due to a new variant of Covid19. One reason Monday was chosen as the day for this event was that it was found most people had slower internet at home over the weekends and when they arrived back at work on a Monday where the internet was much fast online sales increased exponentially with shoppers continuing their Black Friday shopping from the previous weekend.
While the growth in Black Friday sales every year has relatively slowed down Cyber Monday continues to grow every year due to more and more people being on-boarded into online shopping with some even being forced into it due to the lockdowns across South Africa. Cyber Monday is a great alternative for people who prefer staying home due to the ongoing pandemic and with websites releasing new deals sometimes hourly on the day, every year we find Cyber Monday getting more & more exciting. With an increasing number of stores participating the day has quickly become one of if not the biggest online shopping day all over the world. At MiBRAND over the last half a decade since we launched version 1, we have got to experience the different Black Fridays and Cyber Mondays and one thing that stands out this year is the number of stores that are participating with their own world-class e-commerce platforms and the amount of products that have been made available on their stores. We have no doubt that we are currently undergoing our e-commerce revolution here in South Africa with more and more tech-savvy consumers choosing online for their shopping forcing traditional retailers to step up their game and focus on their digital experience & platforms.
Websites like TakeAlot, Superbalist, Makro, & the iStore have already indicated they will be participating in Cyber Monday with dedicated sales on their websites. On MiBRAND.co.za we aggregate deals from over 250 trusted and leading online stores in South Africa, with online scams on the rise we take great care to vet each and every store before listing them on MiBRAND ensuring you are always safe when online shopping. This Cyber Monday we will be featuring the Cyber Monday Feed offering products with a minimum saving value of 30% and up from leading South African online stores.
